Tip of the Month: Connecting Verbatim Gateway to CompactLogix PLC
Verbatim Gateway autodialers can be connected via DF1 to any of Allen-Bradley’s CompactLogix family of PLCs, which have a 9 PIN, male RS232 port. The following tips will help you get started.
1. Prepare your equipment: You will need a Verbatim Gateway autodialer and 510VAB-1 cable, supplied by RACO, and a CompactLogix PLC, RS232 cable and RSLogix software, supplied by Allen-Bradley.
2. Set up CompactLogix communications: Launch the RSLogix software, then use the tabs to set up the serial and system protocol. Next, configure the CompactLogix base tags. Map the tags to the SLC platform using the proper form.
3. Set up Verbatim Gateway communications: Configure the autodialer to link its remote channels to the PLC via DF1. This will allow it to monitor status and alarm conditions.
